Group Chairman (2013 - 2016)
Ron joined the 9th Peterborough, St John’s (Mayors Walk) Cub Scouts and continued through to Scouts; he became a Rover Scout at the 3rd Peterborough, St Paul’s (New England) Scout Group and an Assistant Cub Scout Leader with the St John’s Scout Group on the 16th July 1955.
While on National Service in 1959 in Lybia, North Africa he was Assistant Cub Leader with the 1st Tobruk Troop. After coming home he became a Senior Scout Leader with St Paul’s Scout Group, and then became Group Scout leader for 12 years.
Ron then took up the position of District Commissioner for the newly created Hereward District in 1977; he held this role for 11 years and then took on the role of City Commissioner for Peterborough. After this he became part of the County team as Assistant County Commissioner for various positions.
In September 2013 Ron became our Group Chairman and made a positive impact into our Executive Committee. He was still involved in the Scout Fellowship (Scout Active Support Unit) and as Chairman for the 17th Nene (The Hamptons) Scout Group, right up to the end of his life on the 13th January 2016.
Ron was a member of Scouting for 60 years, 5 months and 28 days.
